During sherardizing or diffusion galvanizing, a layer of zinc powder filled with fine sand is applied.
As a result, the buckles not only become rust-resistant but also gain a much higher grip than blackened or galvanized wire.
No chemical pretreatment, energy-efficient galvanizing process, dry diffusion in the gas phase of zinc, recycling of waste streams, long service life
Veltkamp buckles are sherardized in accordance with the standard EN ISO 14713
As an alternative to sherardizing, buckles made from chemically blackened wire are offered on the market.
However, the result is a smooth surface with less grip. Consequently, the tensile strength is often lower than that of a galvanized buckle.
Chemical blackening is therefore in no way an alternative to sherardizing and is, moreover, very environmentally unfriendly.
